I’m Wendy Cholbi, and I believe you should have complete confident control of your website.
One of my superpowers is translating tech jargon into plain English, and I try to use that power only for good.
A little about me
I started hand-coding websites with HTML in 1994, and what began as a geeky hobby metamorphosed into an actual business building websites for clients. I still do that, but you know the saying: Give a person a website, and they have a website…until it needs updating. Teach a person how to build a website, and they have control over their online business presence for a lifetime.
So in 2007, I started teaching small-business owners how to use blogging software to jump-start their website creation process. Back then Blogger was king of the hill, but in 2009, I discovered a free open-source piece of software called WordPress, and have been teaching (and learning) it ever since.
A little about Site Setup Kit
In 2011, an award-winning graphic designer and marketing consultant named Pamela Wilson interviewed me for her membership program, and as we chatted about choosing a web host and setting up a website, something clicked.
Between the two of us, we’d met too many small business owners who were struggling with their websites. Something that should have been a source of pride (and customers) was instead a source of constant frustration.
Individually, we had each spent years helping small business owners improve their design and technical skills through blog posts, guides, templates and checklists.
So we joined forces to build a comprehensive website resource that do-it-yourself-oriented small-business owners could work through at their own pace, with the personal feel of having a coach on hand to help.
Site Setup Kit is the result.
In 2014, Pamela joined Copyblogger Media as Director of Special Projects, and I took over sole responsibility for maintaining Site Setup Kit.
Since its launch in 2012, hundreds of small-business-owners have used Site Setup Kit to smooth their learning curve as do-it-yourself website creators.
Thousands of subscribers have also benefited from the free Website Basics e-course, which offers a plain-English walk-through of domain names, web hosting, WordPress, and more. Want to join them? Just fill in your email address below.
