How many sites can I build with Site Setup Kit?
As many as you want! Our step-by-step instructions are available whenever you need them, as much as you need them. Many of our Site Setup Kit owners have found that creating new websites is so easy, they’ve built more than one.
Do I need to buy anything else to use Site Setup Kit?
To set up your own website, you’ll need your own website hosting account, and you’ll need to register a domain name.
To use Site Setup Kit, you’ll need a copy of the Genesis Framework (which is included in Site Setup Kit at no extra cost). You’ll need to purchase a license for the Dynamik Website Builder child theme, which starts at $79 for a single site.
I already own the Genesis Framework. Can I get a discount on Site Setup Kit?
No, discounts are not offered to current Genesis owners. If you purchase your own copy of Genesis, you’re entitled to one-on-one email support via the StudioPress Customer Portal, which Site Setup Kit owners don’t have access to (Genesis support for Site Setup Kit owners is provided via Site Setup Kit support tickets).
Can I use Site Setup Kit with another WordPress theme I like?
No. Although the WordPress Basics module and certain other lessons are theme-agnostic, the bulk of the lessons inside Site Setup Kit are written specifically to teach you how to use the Dynamik Website Builder. And the whole point of Dynamik is that its powerful design controls allow you to create a site that looks exactly the way you want it to. Custom layouts, color combinations, font choices, and content organization are all possible with Dynamik. Once you start using Dynamik on your site, you’ll never need to switch themes again, even if you want to completely redesign your site.
What if I am really truly an absolute beginner? If I don’t even know what WordPress is, will I be lost?
Our Foundations module assumes no background knowledge at all, and explains everything you need to know, in plain English. The Foundations lessons will walk you through domain names, web hosting, and installing WordPress. All the Site Setup Kit lessons are illustrated with screenshots, and you can submit a support ticket anytime you need help or clarification.
How long do I have access to the tutorials and support?
You get lifetime access. As long as Site Setup Kit exists (and I don’t plan on going anywhere), you’ll be able to read the tutorials and submit support tickets.
Can you explain what a “theme” is? What about a “framework”? Why do I need them?
The Genesis Framework is a WordPress theme. It’s different from other WordPress themes because it’s supposed to be used in conjunction with a child theme. Dynamik is a child theme that can only be used with the Genesis Framework.
StudioPress (the maker of the Genesis Framework) uses this analogy: If your website is a car, then WordPress is the engine that powers it, the Genesis Framework is the chassis/body that gives it its shape, and the child theme is the custom paint job.
The car analogy gets stretched (and possibly broken) when the child theme in question is the Dynamik Website Builder, because Dynamik is more than a custom paint job; it’s a custom paint job that you can modify using design controls. In the StudioPress car analogy, to turn your car a different color, you’d have to swap in a different child theme. But with Dynamik, you can accomplish that color change (and a lot more) by using the design controls instead of swapping themes.
The 20 styles that come with Site Setup Kit are starting points that Pamela designed for Site Setup Kit owners who are a little overwhelmed by the hundreds of design controls inside Dynamik. You don’t need to start with one of these, though — they are optional, an extra stepping stone for those who need them.
I thought WordPress was just for blogs. How do I get a real website?
You keep mentioning “websites,” but I just want a blog.
These are two sides of the same question, and the short answer is, WordPress does both!
Although WordPress started out as a blogging platform, it has grown over the years to be a robust framework for websites of all types. Every WordPress site can be configured to focus primarily on blogging. Site Setup Kit shows you how you can set up your site to have your blog as the front page.
Each of the Site Setup Kit styles has a fully functioning demo page that shows how the design looks for a blog post as well as a static home page. By using the controls provided by WordPress and Genesis in the administrative interface of your site (the “Dashboard”), you can set your site up as a blog, as a website with static pages, or as a website where one of the pages is the “blog” page, using any of the styles.
Who actually answers support tickets? Will I have to explain my issue to outsourced customer service reps?
Never! I (Wendy) answer all support tickets personally.
Can I see examples of websites created using this product?
Yes! There’s a whole Wall of Fame devoted to sharing Site Setup Kit owner success stories. Click here to see the Wall of Fame.
As you browse through these websites, remember that although each one is unique, they all use the same WordPress theme. Site Setup Kit shows you how to use powerful design controls to ensure that your site will never be a cookie-cutter copy of anyone else’s.
What payment methods do you accept?
You can buy Site Setup Kit using a major credit card (Visa/Mastercard/Discover/AmEx) or PayPal.
What if I buy Site Setup Kit and decide it isn’t for me?
I know that the do-it-yourself road isn’t for everyone, and I don’t want you to be stuck with training you can’t use. That’s why I give you a full 30 days to check out Site Setup Kit, and if for any reason you find it’s not for you, just let me know and I will process a full refund the same day I receive your request.
What if I have a question you haven’t answered here?
No problem! Just ask your question on the Contact page, and I’ll answer you within 24 hours (allow a little longer if you’re sending your question on a weekend or holiday).
